My Green Lunch Box is your solution to Rubbish Free Lunch Days - it's a simple, environmentally friendly fund raiser.

IMPROVE YOUR CHILD'S NUTRITION

Research shows that an amazing 43% of Australian primary school children aren't getting the daily recommended amount of fruit and vegetables. With a third of your child's food intake being consumed at school, it's important that the food in their lunch box provides optimum nutrition - the protein, fibre, vitamins and minerals they need for energy and growth. Not to mention for concentration.

Creating waste free lunch days reduces the consumption of packaged, processed foods, increasing the intake of fresh, whole foods. Healthy food and drink choices in schools means less waste and better nutrition.

REDUCE LANDFILL

Did you know that Australia is the second highest producer of waste per person in the Western World?

That's right! We create 1 million tonnes of waste every year. It is estimated that average lunch-toting child generates 30 kilos of litter a year. We can have a significant impact on landfill by simply avoiding the use of cling wrap, juice boxes and unnecessary packaging.

REDUCE EXPOSURE TO PLASTIC NASTIES

It is reassuring to know that every My Green Lunch Box product is free from BPA, phthalate & lead. Australia lags behind the rest of the world in banning the oestrogen-mimicking chemical BPA. China, Malaysia and many other countries of the European Union have already done so. The US Government proposed a bill banning it's use in March 2011.

You can trust My Green Lunch Box to provide products that protect & promote the good health of your children.

SAVE OUR EARTH

Over 1 billion plastic water bottles a year are thrown away in Australia while only 30% are recycled - that means 700 million plastic water bottles end up in landfill or floating in the ocean annually. That is enough plastic water bottles to wrap around the planet 149 times each year!

Plastic bottles make up 80% of the enormous plastic garbage patch that is currently floating around in the Pacific Ocean. This plastic 'reef' is currently more than  twice the size of Texas and growing rapidly. It is located just a few hundred miles off the Californian coast. One floating garbage heap contains 3.5 million tons of junk, mostly plastic.

It will take 700 years before the plastic bottles start to decompose.

Australia's annual use of bottled water generated more than 60,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions - the same amount that 13,000 cars generate over a year.

SAVE TREES

Did you know that a school wih a population of 500 students will dispose of approximately 11,000 paper bags every year from the canteen/tuckshop?

It takes a 15 year old tree to produce 700 brown paper bags. 71% of the world's paper supply that makes these paper bags comes from diminishing forests, not tree farms or the reccyle bin.

4 billion trees (35% of the total trees) are used in paper industries on every continent.

SAVE MONEY

Buying a bottle of water every day can cost you up to $18.00 per week or a whopping $972 per year! Keep your own BPA free water bottle at work, a sparein the car and send your kids to school with one and save money.

“In Australia, as elsewhere across the globe, obesity is a major problem. In children a high intake of processed, ‘junk’ foods and an inadequate consumption of fruits and vegetables, are important risk factors for mental health problems and reduced cognitive ability. My Green Lunch Box is a wonderful initiative that helps lay the foundation for a lifetime of good eating and helps prevent so many of these avoidable diseases associated with obesity and poor nutrition. This contrasts to other forms of fundraising, such as the standard chocolate drive, which go against healthy eating practices”.

“At last a fundraising initiative that supports the environment and your school by offering a variety of well designed lunch boxes, bottles and wrapping options to help parents avoid using packaging that often ends up in landfill.”
