Keeping things colorful and interesting is the key with getting kids (and adults) to stay on track with eating good lunches. Another vital consideration is making it look like fun. Lunches can have themes for the little ones and get them involved in making their lunches too, even if it means just sprinkling the grated carrots! That way they are more likely to enjoy and ultimately eat.

This lunch box has a slight middle eastern twist and once again has a variety of textures and lots of flavour. It’s an awesome protein pack to provide real sustain energy throughout the day.



Falafel Cones

These little delights are the right size for a snack and can be eating all in one go or spread out over the day – it gives you the option to eat one at recess or morning tea and the other two at lunch. Whichever way you chose, it provides a perfect tasty treat. I’m using Mission Sun-dried tomato and Basil wrap bread in this recipe and I cut one sheet into three pieces like this:

Make up some tomato, cucumber, red onion and parsley salad (actually its exactly like tabouli without the burghul -cracked wheat grains). Finely chop equal portions of each ingredient, maybe a little less onion if you want, and combine in a bowl with a teaspoon of olive oil. I use a lemon flavored olive oil which is just right for this recipe.

If you have the time to make your own falafel, well thats great but otherwise I’ve found a good product in Larder Fresh that is dairy, wheat and egg free with no preservatives. They go in the freezer and you cook them as you go- nice and easy! I get mine from Key Ingredients in Clifton Hill in Melbourne but am sure they are sold in all good health food store around Australia. Here’s what they look like:
